Ikenobo Today
Learning Ikenobo is valuable as it is the oldest and largest school of Ikebana, the Japanese art of floral design. Under the current 45th generation Headmaster Sen'ei Ikenobo, Ikenobo continues to be a vibrant center for Ikebana, balancing classical practices with modern interpretation. Students of other Ikebana schools also benefit by learning the spirit and tradition of Ikenobo.
Learning Ikenobo
Ikenobo emphasizes the importance of harmony with nature and the flow of time -- finding beauty in the present moment and potential of the future. Plants cut and removed from nature create an expression of nature in abstract form, while reflecting the spirit of the arranger. Beginners are taught basic technical skills and how to sensitize their eyes to the materials. It is a mindful, relaxing, and rewarding practice that is shared with others.
